Monserrate
Is the large mountain that over looks Bogota and is one of the attractions of the city.
There are two ways to reach the top of Monserrate, Walk or by cable tram. Walking will take you a few hours but it is only advised if you are in shape. You have to remember that if you are flying into Bogota you are already at a higher altitude that you are already use to so then climbing Monserrate could be a little stressful on your body. The tram is cheap and an effective alternative to getting to the top and only takes about 10 minutes.
Monserrate, with it’s church at the top attracts people on pilgrimages, you may see some of the walking up in their bare feet to prove their love to God. You may also find the army along the trail as they use the mountain for some fitness training and to make sure it is secure for the tourists. In the past it was not a particularly save place for tourists to walk up but I believe these days it is ok.
As I mentioned there is a church at the top which should not be entered by un married couples. As fokelore says, “A couple who are un marry that enter the church shall never get married”. Believe what you wish but it is worth seeing, you are also to make 3 wishes when you enter.
Also there is a a very romantic resturante, a market and simple eating estblishments so you can take a breather when you get to the top
